Friday we took Abigail to see Dr. Dudgeon for her 4 month well visit. It went great. She now weighs 11 lbs 12 oz and is 23 inches long. He said she is doing great and growing well.
The main thing we wanted to talk to him about was the possibility of her having reflux. She has continued to be very fussy, not sleeping great and then recently she started doing a couple of other things that just did not seem right. First she began to push away and fuss while breastfeeding. She will arch her back and push away over and over while eating. It's not every time she breastfeeds but enough to make me think something is wrong. Second thing is that she started spitting up a lot more. This is not consistent either but some days she will spit up almost everything we feed her. On the days that she is spitting up so much she is also very fussy and does not like laying down. With these symptoms he agreed that it was most likely reflux and prescribed Zantac for her to take twice a day. We started the Zantac that night and we are already seeing a difference in her. Last night she went to bed at 8 and slept till 5:20!!! She hasn't slept that long ever. It was amazing to get that much sleep. I kept waking up and looking at the monitor to make sure she was still ok. We are hoping that she is feeling better and it wasn't just a fluke. We will see tonight. The only bad thing is that liquid Zantac tastes horrible! Apparently it is really hard to disguise the bitterness. Today we put it in a bottle with 1/2 oz breast milk and she took it much better. I feel bad that she has been so uncomfortable but I'm glad we can now help her feel better.
